Each year, The Green Vale School hosts a themed culinary adventure led by GVS parent and esteemed nutrition consultant, Hanna Robinson. Whether the theme is “How Does My Food Grow?”, featuring foods that grow either below or above ground, or higher up in trees; or “Food Groups”, featuring veggies, wholesome grains & seeds, nourishing proteins, and dairy products–each event allows students to embark on a flavorful journey exploring an array of nutritious food options.

“The foods featured in this event mirror the many offerings found in the Green Vale Dining Hall," explained Shannon Camacho, the School’s Manager of Food Services. "Our goal is to not just introduce these diverse and nutritious options but to instill a lasting understanding. By engaging with these foods firsthand, we hope our students will recognize, appreciate, and incorporate them into their daily lunch choices."

Curated with much thought and care, The Green Vale School prepares these foods in a variety of ways. Students may be able to try them raw, roasted, steamed, in a muffin or as part of a composed salad. Some students are curious and willing to give something new a try. Others like to stick to what they know, but all are happy to find familiar food during lunch time in the Dining Hall.

Camacho added, “The idea is to use the Dining Hall as an extension of the classroom and teach young students about the food they eat in an interactive way so that they will continue to explore their nutritional options throughout their years at GVS and beyond.”

5. Providing Nutritious Meal Options
